DIAC Opens visa processing centres to cope with increased visa applications

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Australia have announced changes in visa processing locations that come into effect on the 1st of July 2008.

The changes to visa application processing centres are aimed at reducing processing time for Australian visa applications, and to help DIAC cope with the increase in applications as a result of the highly successful Temporary Skilled Migration programme.

According to the DIAC, visa applications will be handled at the following locations:

  • Medical Practitioner (422) – Sydney, Melbourne, Perth
  • Temporary Business Long Stay (457) - Sydney, Melbourne, Perth
  • Sponsored Business Visitor Short Stay (459) - Sydney, Melbourne, Perth
  • Occupational Trainee (442) (Onshore) – Adelaide
  • Aged Parent (Permanent) (804) – Perth
  • Contributory Aged Parent (Migrant) (864) – Perth
  • Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) (884) – Perth

In addition to these changes, DIAC has planned further changes to be implemented from the 1st of September to the 31st of December 2008, which is to be finalised over the coming months.
