New Amendments Made to Working Holiday Visa Australia

Friday, 11 July 2008

Amendments have been made to the Migration Regulations Act (1994) to encourage working holiday visa applicants to spend some time working in regional areas of Australia.

The DIAC (Department of Immigration and Citizenship) Australia have changed the term "seasonal work" in Schedule 1 & 2 of the act to "specified work".

The effect of this change is that people on Australian working holiday visas who wish to continue their stay and apply for a second working holiday visa, must have carried out "specified work" in regional Australia for at least 3 months.

The actual jobs and industries to be included in the definition of "specified work" are to be outlined in a new document called an "instrument of writing".

The changes will apply to any working holiday visa application made on or after July 1, 2008.
